Job Summary

We are currently looking for an Agronomist, who will report to our Africa Agronomy Director. He/she will be part of a Team responsible for managing the agribusiness sites that we have in different African countries. This role is directly in charge of the agronomy supervision of our tomato farms in Africa (Nigeria, Ghana and Senegal). The position will be based at our headquarters in Barcelona, but the successful candidate will travel frequently to the different farms in Africa during the seasonal period.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Soil and Plant Analysis:collect soil and plant tissue samples for analysis in our internal lab, helping to determine the health and needs of the tomato crops. Apply conservation practices to prevent erosion and improve fertility.
  • Pest and Disease Management:implement strategies to combat local pests, diseases, and weeds, ensuring that crops grow healthily.
  • Use of Advanced Technologies:use precision agriculture tools, such as GPS-guided machinery, agronomic drones, satellite grow evolution control, etc., to optimize agricultural production.
  • Technical Advice:develop local tomato farmers on agricultural practices such as modern tomato farming, crop rotation, irrigation, fertilization, and pest prevention, adapted to the specific conditions of the country.
  • Conducting Experiments:conduct field trials with new tomato varieties and collect data to evaluate crop performance under the local environmental conditions.
  • Design of Irrigation Systems:develop efficient systems to optimize water use in agriculture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture (Agronomic Engineer) or related field with a Master’s degree.
  • Knowledge in the design and calculation of big irrigation systems.
  • Minimum 8 years of work experience in agronomy.
  • In-depth knowledge of soil and crop principles. Industrial tomato farming will be a plus.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Outstanding research and data analysis skills.
  • English (C1). French will be a plus.
