Job description

GBfoods Africa offer culinary solutions operating in over 24 countries with a regional office in Accra - Ghana.

Some of our local brands have been in consumers' kitchens for over a century and have positioned themselves as authentically loved brands, as well as deeply rooted parts of the local culture.

 

Role:

Reporting to the Agribusiness Director,

The Senior Agronomist is responsible for leading the planning and execution of GBfoods’ block farming projects to improve farmer productivity, strengthen stakeholder relationships, and ensure successful project delivery. The role provides agronomic and operational leadership by working closely with farmers, communities, and internal teams to drive sustainable farming practices, improve yields, and support the expansion of block farming initiatives.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Project Planning & Execution

  • Support the Agribusiness Director in the design and development of priority products and initiatives for block farming projects.
  • Develop annual project rollout and implementation plans for block farming activities.
  • Lead and coordinate on-ground execution of farming projects to ensure delivery against timelines, budgets, and objectives.
  • Identify and evaluate suitable locations for future block farming expansion projects.

Agronomy & Farmer Support

  • Work closely with agronomists to provide technical guidance and agronomic support to farmers.
  • Drive initiatives aimed at improving crop productivity and year-on-year farm yields.
  • Monitor farming activities and ensure adherence to recommended agronomic practices and quality standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance farmer productivity and sustainability.

Stakeholder & Community Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with farmers, community leaders, suppliers, and other local stakeholders.
  • Lead community engagement activities to ensure alignment, collaboration, and project sustainability.
  • Ensure high farmer retention and maintain mutually beneficial relationships within the farming communities.

Team Leadership & Reporting

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to local project teams to ensure strong team engagement and performance.
  • Coordinate cross-functional collaboration to support smooth project operations.
  • Prepare and submit periodic project updates, performance reports, and key insights to management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Crop Science, Agricultural Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 7+ years’ experience in agronomy, agricultural project management, or large-scale farming operations.
  • Experience managing farmer networks, rural community projects, or block farming initiatives is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of crop production, farm management, and agricultural extension services.
  • Previous work experience in a farm Project Management role an added advantage.
  • Experience working on a farm setting and providing technical support to farmers.
